Data Protection Update
Today’s update covers data protection responsibilities and legislation now that we are at the end of the Brexit transition period. In particular, we discuss international data transfers and the new standard contractual clauses to be used when transferring personal data outside the UK. This is quite a long update, but I hope you’ll find all of it helpful! Click here to download.
Off-Payroll: where are we 3 months later?
One of my lovely clients, Intuitive Interim & Executive Search asked me to participate in the FIRST of its “Intuitive Experts” vlog series. A very proud moment for me I must say!
We’re discussing the Off-Payroll Rules 3 months on from go-live. A quick overview of the rules, the significant market reactions and answering some questions submitted by Intuitive’s clients and contractors.
The video is here – enjoy!
Tax Risk Assessments
Not an exciting topic I know, but important all the same. Since the implementation of the Criminal Finances Act in 2017, and the ever-increasing burden of tax legislation and regulation on staffing businesses generally, the obligation to regularly assess and mitigate risk is no longer a “nice to have”.
But there’s very little guidance on how to complete a tax risk assessment, so I decided to give you all some practical hints and tips. Good luck!
IR35N Think Tank
I’ve been incredibly lucky to participate in a number of Think Tank roundtables, hosted by IR35 Navigator, discussing the future of recruitment agencies, contractor engagement models, new trends, and of course the Off-Payroll Rules (since we are all consumed by that subject in the run up to April!).
Here are some of the snapshots from those sessions. As always, any feedback you have is greatly appreciated!

A guide to sole traders
Many of my clients have been asking me about sole traders. Not necessarily in response to the upcoming Off-Payroll Rules which will impact the use of limited company or PSC contractors after April, but mostly to understand if it’s a commercially viable route to market for contractors. I therefore decided to do a video about what sole traders are, how clients and agencies can engage them, and the main compliance considerations and processes as well. The short answer is: it’s not without risks, but sole traders aren’t as uncommon as people think – as the stats at the start of this video highlight!
Hope you find it useful!
Non-standard Client T&Cs for recruiters
This is a webinar I did in collaboration with the REC (Recruitment & Employment Confederation) to help recruiters understand the areas to look out for when reviewing non-standard contracts with their clients. Big thank you to Lewina Farrell for the intro and insightful input in the Q&A session.
Outsourced services vs staffing
I was asked by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) to participate in their 2020 conference which was very nice of them! I decided to do a short(ish) video all about the difference between temporary recruitment and outsourced services, and it was included in the conference as a bitesize learning session.
The video also includes some practical tips and advice for any staffing businesses who are interested in offering SOW services to clients.
As always, if you have any feedback please let me know via the contact page.
Enjoy!
The (dreaded!) Off-Payroll Rules
I’ve recently been working with IR35 Navigator, a truly innovative, tech-powered advisory platform designed to help all parties in the supply chain successfully manage the impact of the IR35 reforms.
It’s a great compliance solution for agencies and end clients. IR35N asked me to provide some bitesize videos and other content on the technical and procedural aspects of the new rules.
Despite my avid dislike of seeing my own face or hearing my own voice, I agreed and here are some of the results!
The videos are designed to be informative but also practical. We all know the new Off-Payroll rules are difficult to get your head around, hence the decision to break the content up into manageable chunks.
Hope you like them, if you have any feedback, please do let me know via the contact form on the website.
